Expanding Access to Oral Health Education Across Languages
Effective public health education begins with communication that people can understand. The CareGuard Initiative believes that language should never be a barrier to accessing reliable, evidence-based oral health information.
Many individuals and families in the United States speak a language other than English at home. While high-quality preventive oral health recommendations are widely available, educational materials are not always accessible in the languages most commonly spoken by diverse communities. As a result, language barriers may reduce understanding of preventive recommendations and limit informed health decision-making.
The CareGuard Initiative addresses this challenge by developing multilingual educational resources that make evidence-based oral health information more understandable, accessible, and relevant to the communities they are intended to serve.
Our Approach
Every multilingual educational resource is developed through a structured process that emphasizes scientific accuracy, clarity, and cultural appropriateness.
Rather than producing direct word-for-word translations, educational materials are carefully adapted to ensure that health information remains understandable while preserving the original scientific meaning and evidence-based recommendations.
This approach helps improve communication between evidence-based public health guidance and the individuals who rely on it to make informed decisions about preventive oral healthcare.
Current Languages
Educational resources are currently being developed in:
- English
- Spanish
- Russian
As the initiative expands, additional language versions will be developed based on community needs, collaborative partnerships, and public health priorities.
Future language development may include:
- Chinese
- Vietnamese
- Korean
- Arabic
- Tagalog
- Other languages commonly spoken within underserved communities throughout the United States.
Educational Materials
Multilingual educational resources may include:
- Preventive oral health guides
- Oral hygiene education
- Patient information sheets
- Visual infographics
- Community education materials
- Downloadable educational resources
- Digital learning content
Each resource is designed to communicate practical, evidence-based information in language that is easy to understand and appropriate for diverse audiences.
Looking Forward
The CareGuard Initiative views multilingual education as an essential component of improving equitable access to preventive oral health information. Through continued collaboration with healthcare professionals, educators, translators, and community organizations, the initiative seeks to expand the availability of reliable educational resources that support informed decision-making and strengthen public understanding of preventive oral health across diverse communities.
